This dog is characterized by a very small size. It is famous for its saucy and dignified appearance and self-assured disposition. It has a squared-off and sturdy body, deep and broad chest, and straight and compact limbs. The eyes are dark, round and luminous, and the ears are flaring to the sides and held at a 45 degree angle when in repose. These dogs come in all possible colors and can be of two types: long-coated and short-coated. For an unknown reason, long-coated dogs are more amicable than short-coated ones.

Dogs of this breed are rather hardy, but they cannot stand cold climate and should be kept in the house. Small puppies need special care and if you don’t have breeding experience, you’d better not breed your bitch. Smoothcoat type of the breed requires little care, but the dogs with long hair should be brushed daily and bathed occasionally to remove the natural oils from the coat.
